FAQs

When will there be more scholarships available?

Scholarship season for 2019-2020 will reopen in May of 2019.  

What is the criteria to apply for a scholarship?

Open to any incoming first year or undergraduate CPS Energy dependent student in the CPS Energy service area.


You must be admitted to a Texas College or University and returning students must present proof of enrollment.


May pursue an undergraduate degree in any concentration. 


You must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and maintain a minimum institutional GPA of 2.75 or above based on a 4.0 scale each semester. If you fall below minimum GPA requirements, you may appeal scholarship non-renewal by sending a letter of appeal to the HOPE organization. 


You must maintain full-time enrollment status as defined by the university throughout the duration of the scholarship term. (In the event that this requirement is not met, you are eligible to receive the scholarship the subsequent semester if all requirements are met.)


You will be required to submit a letter of recommendation. 


Community service involvement is required. 


No income requirement is set forth.


You will be invited and required to attend the 16th Annual HOPE Tribute to Hispanic Heritage Gala in October 2019. For an exemption, recipients must email the HOPE Executive Committee Board at HOPE@CPSEnergy.com


You will be required to provide a three to four sentence biography (include major), a headshot photo (jpeg), and contact information for communicating with the scholarship representative.

What is proof of enrollment?

Proof of enrollment can be obtained from your university’s enrollment or registrar’s office.  


If you are an incoming freshman or transfer student, please submit your acceptance letter as a substitute for your proof of enrollment. 


Recipients must provide proof of enrollment before receiving your scholarship award.

What is a letter of recommendation?

The letter of recommendation highlights all of your leadership qualities that have been demonstrated at school or within the community.

Step One

Before you complete the online application, please ensure that you have all information necessary to complete the application before you begin.  You will not have the option to leave and return to the application.
You will be asked for:
·       GPA on a 4.0 scale
·       List all community service and years of service
·       Guardian’s CPS Energy Employee/Retiree ID (can be found on pay stub)
·       A 250 word essay- Tell us about a person that guided you throughout your life and ultimately motivated you to pursue a college education.  Write about this person and what they did to help you along the way. (Some examples might be a mother, father, brother, sister, counselor, teacher, mentor, pastor or priest.)

Step Two

Letter of reference is required.  After completing the application, please email letter of reference to: admin@hope-sa.org
