Yolanda Arellano


Yolanda N. Arellano began her career at Waterman Broadcasting in 1976 as Executive Secretary to Mr. Bernard Waterman. Because of her diligent efforts in establishing improved relations and communication between the stations and San Antonio’s civic, and community groups, soon she was promoted to Community Relations and Public Affairs Director for KTSA/KTFM radio stations. Among her numerous civic accomplishments include:

  • Secretary of the Westside Coalition, 1972 to 1977
  • President of the San Antonio Muscular Dystrophy Association, 1980 to 1981
  • Director of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau, 1985 to 1991
  • Director of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Commissioner of the Visitors Bureau.
  • Her position with the Tourism Council is now advisory Board of Directors for six years
  • Chair/President of the San Antonio Festival, 1987 to 1991
  • Board of Adjustments through District 7
  • Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Mexican American Unity Council
  • Chairperson for the Zoning Commission
  • Chairperson of the Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee
  • SER Jobs for Progress National, Inc., as a Board Member of SER Texas Workforce Center
  • Secretary of the San Antonio Food Bank Board of Trustees
  • Archbishop Flores’s Brunch benefiting the Women’s Shelter
  • Telethon Navideno
  • Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women, 1987 thru 1991
  • Vice Chair – AAdvisory Council of the University Center for Community Health, 1995 -1997
  • Established her PR firm Yolanda Arellano & Associates, 1990 to 1991
  • Executive director of the San Antonio Restaurant Association, 1991 to 2013
For her many years of civic leadership and service to the community, Yolanda has received many honors and awards:
  • Inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame
  • La Prensa Foundation’s Latina Women in Action Award
  • Leadership Excellence Award by the Texas Restaurant Association
  • Ford Hispanic Salute for Literacy in Education
  • Outstanding Leadership Award – San Antonio Festival
  • Placa de la Solaridad Internacional presented by the Mexican Government (1985)
  • Certificate and Special Presentation for “outstanding service and leadership which has immeasurably benefited the citizens of Texas” Texas Attorney General
  • Senate Proclamation recognizing Yolanda N. Arellano as an outstanding citizens of San Antonio, Texas, proclamation signed by Frank Tejeda, Member, Texas Senate
  • Caring for Children – Appreciation Award, St. Peter’s St Joseph’s Children’s Home
  • Mateo Camargo Humanitarian Award – Centro Cultural Aztlan
  • Hidalgo de San Antonio de Bejar – Bexar County Commissioners Court

Yolie, a native of San Antonio, Texas, attended San Antonio College (Radio, TV and Broadcasting Science); Draughon’s Business College and is a proud high school graduate of St. Francis Academy. She is a San Antonio Leadership Graduate.
