J. Oscar Ramirez, is the current President/CEO for the Avenida Guadalupe Association (Avenida). Mr. Ramirez, a native of Puerto Rico, joined the Avenida in January 2006 and is the fifth President/CEO. The mission of the Avenida is to economically transform the lives of our neighborhood residents and businesses. The Avenida accomplishes this by: Empowering our Community, Developing our Commerce, and Honoring our Culture. Prior to coming to San Antonio, Oscar worked in the Rio Grande Valley, where he practiced law and represented migrant farm workers and VAWA clients, as well as in Austin, TX where he led the economic development efforts for Southwest Key Programs.

Mr. Ramirez has a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma and a joint M.B.A./J.D. degree from Regent University School of Law. Oscar is the proud father of two kids (Alissa-17 and Julian-9) and he is actively involved in his church as a Small Group Leader and the Point Person for the Usher duties. He currently serves on the City’s Community Development Advisory Committee, which is responsible for implementation of the City’s Economic Development Master Plan. Oscar also serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for New Communities, an organization dedicated to serving vulnerable children and families while providing them with opportunities to reach their greatest potentials. Lastly, he is currently serving on the National Council of La Raza’s Affiliate Advisory Council as the Texas male representative as well as the Secretary. Oscar also holds a second degree black belt in the sport of Judo and at one time was ranked in the top 5 of his category here in the US. He has been blessed to be able to live abroad and to have been able to represent the United States in international competitions.

Mr. Ramirez is responsible for leading the Avenida through its future development projects to include the Promesa Project, an economic development master plan, estimated at $5 million worth of projects, as well as Avenida’s current programs including Avenida’s Integrated Workforce Training Program and Avenida’s Housing Counseling Program.
